Inclement weather

26th February 2018

Dear Parents and carers

Inclement weather reminder

Dear all

As the “beast from the east” weather draws closer this is a reminder to you of our emergency closure procedures. We make every effort to stay open but pupils come from such a wide range of distances and directions that the weather situation at Linton may well differ from your local area. For that reason families and transport providers must make independent judgements about the safety of each journey when the school is open.

The decision about school closure is based on local school site conditions and main transport routes. We liaise with Linton Village College but occasionally the two schools may make different decisions because of the difference in expected main transport Journeys. Very few Granta pupils live locally.

In the case of complete or partial closure announcements are made on local radio – BBC Radio Cambridgeshire (details can also be found on their website) Heart Radio and Star FM; details are also available through the County Council website (www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk)

Although not a requirement we endeavour to notify all transport providers. For pupils who are transported by their parent to school the form tutor will be asked to call as soon as we know the situation: it is very important this week that we have up to date contact numbers please.

A closure notice will also be posted on the school website (www.granta.cambs.sch.uk)

If the school is open when there is snow in the area we keep a close eye on the forecast and make an assessment as to the safety for transporting pupils home. If it is determined that the school needs to close early we will contact the transport and also all families to ensure that there is a person available to meet their child on arrival. The County Council website does update the school status during the day with information about early closures etc. The local radio stations also try to announce any changes when they get them so please keep listening.

With the range of decision making factors involved, and having consulted the weather forecast as it is currently known, I have already taken the decision that after school club will operate as usual tonight (Monday ) but will close for the rest of this week, opening again on Monday 5th March. This will enable both pupils and staff to travel when light, and hopefully safety, is at its best. I apologise for any inconvenience caused. The cost of those sessions will automatically be deducted from bills.

Yours sincerely

Lucie Calow
