DofE Bronze Volunteering Award

1st November 2016

Bronze Group 2015/16: Jess. Jordan. Charlotte, Andrew

Volunteering section: 3 months

Community action and raising awareness

 Location: Granta School

Goal: Revamp and improve the common room for the students using wooden pallets to create an exciting new seating and lounge area.

Volunteering gives you the chance to make a difference to people’s lives and use your skills and experience to help your local community. You can use this opportunity to become involved in a project or with an organisation that you care about.

We decided we would like to revamp the common room, particularly the comfy chairs. We found an idea on Pinterest to make furniture from old pallets.

We really enjoyed sourcing materials in the local community then working together in a team to build the chairs and table. The best fun was painting.

We all worked really hard and everyone was so excited to see them all in the common room when it was finished.

It was a very special time when Tracy Grant (Cambridgeshire DofE) came into school and officially declared them available for use.
